Dec. 6, 2022. The Likud party’s agreements with the Religious Zionism party
create a situation in which its leader, MK Bezalel Smotrich, will become the de-
facto prime minister of the West Bank. His plans, as published, will be another
nail in the coffin of the possibility for a political agreement as a solution to the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Such plans condemn our children to a future of
continued conflict, with frequent escalation into war, along with terrorist attacks,
increased racism, and continued control over another people.
The past week has seen an awakening of the Israeli public concerned about the
image of the state and determined to struggle against the real possibility of the
loss of basic rights for men and women. This awakening is hugely important, but
a struggle that does not take into account the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a
partial struggle.
We have become accustomed to disconnecting the struggle within Israel for
equal rights and Israel’s conflict with the Palestinians. Since, however, the
damage of living in ongoing conflict permeates every aspect of our lives here,
these two struggles are best understood as one struggle.
We, Israeli and Palestinian mothers, will continue to work tirelessly for a political
agreement to end our century-old national conflict. We have no other choice. We
invite everyone to join us in voicing our opposition to the emerging coalition
agreement with the Religious Zionism party. We seek a life of equality, peace,
freedom, justice, and security for all who live here.
