Women Wage Peace and Women Of the Sun received the 2025 International Catalonia Prize

Last January, Yael Admi, WWP and Reem Alhajajra, Director of Women of the Sun, were awarded the 2025 International Catalonia Prize by the Catalan Government for the joint initiative “the Mothers’ Call’, as “a symbol of hope in the midst of a long and painful conflict.” In a governmental statement, the Mothers’ Call was introduced as a “brave commitment to peace that underscores the essential role of women as builders of a shared future.” Watch the full ceremony here. In her remarks at the prize ceremony, Dr. Yael Admi said: “Each of us carries deep pain, and from the painful reality of both peoples we choose to build hope together. Hope that is rooted in trust and born from the connection between us as women and  as mothers – from the heart of our existence. Our partnership requires courage, listening, empathy, and solidarity. We do not agree about  everything. We do not live in the same reality. But we do agree on one essential truth: the future will not be built by force, but by responsibility; not by humiliation, but by mutual recognition; not by the silence of women, but by their voices.”

During their visit, the two women met with the President of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, as well as ministers in the Catalonia Government, who accompanied the delegation in their visits to important sites in Barcelona. They had a debate session with academic and peace research experts, a meeting with Catalan peace and human rights organizations, and were interviewed by the local media, read more here.

Their visit was crowned with the President of Catalonia Salvador Illa and three former presidents José Montilla i Aguilera, Artur Mas i Gavarró, and Jordi Pujol i Soley signing and joining the Mothers’ call.
