Why didn’t you join WWP until the very moment you actually decided to join?
Daniella London Dekel: “I heard about WWP here and there and I personally knew a few women who joined. I liked the fact that it was a good cause, not affiliated with any one party, women from a broad spectrum, peace, a future – it all sounded right.
However, I did not join.
Why? That’s a good question. I think I was just in total despair; maybe it started after Rabin was assassinated? Oslo? Strengthening of the Hamas? This despair became part of my DNA, of my routine; life was fine anyway. There’s no future, but there’s the present.
Second of all, the messages of the movement sounded a bit too broad. Where was the How? Why? How much? (Now I have good answers to those questions).
The day that my son, who was in a combat unit, called and said he wanted to be an officer, that was the day that I joined WWP. Maybe that’s self-centered, but that’s how it was for me. When the general became personal, I got a wake-up call.”
