Women Wage Peace

Impressions from a Coloquium on Israel’s Alternative Security Measures, held at IDC, 31.8.16, by Marie Lyne Smadja

The great generals of Israel for “the cause of children” and of future generations. Yesterday, I was at a colloquium of generals and high-ranking officers of the IDF, shabak, and Mossad (as in the panel that in the audience, I think I was one of the few ” civilians”). Anyway as we say in French, ” I took for my grade “! Apart from all the admiration I have for these heroes of Israel, I’ve learned a lot of their arguments. All, without exception, think about the cause of children, to future generations, and in the future of Israel. I was surprised to see that the vast majority are for political agreements with the Palestinians. Some people advocate to settle separate agreements with the a. P and with Hamas. Other Advocate a regional solution, or the one of 2 STATES FOR 2 PEOPLES. One was for the status-quo, i.e. to maintain the current situation and react to each time in case of attack. I particularly welcome two women: the colonel rahel dolev, and the one who presented this panel, the journalist tali lifkin shahak (widow of amon lifkin shahak, z ” L, former chief of staff of the army). Women show that they understand very well the security issues and policies. I couldn’t start better the 1st of September 2016, which is dedicated to our children, and to the school year. It must be borne in mind, and in politics, too, always and above all: the cause of children.
