Women Wage Peace

Waging Peace in Brazil \ Tania Harkavi & Julliet Kahwaji

On October 29th, two representatives of Women Wage Peace, Julliet Kahwaji and Tania Harkavi, participated in a women’s March for Peace in Curitiba, Brazil. The March was organized in honour of Women Wage Peace and their March of Hope in 2016.

At the end of the rainy March there was a performance with Yael Dekelbaum’s band, with the state of Parana’s symphony, with a women’s choir from Curitiba, the Brazilian singer Elba Ramalho and the well known bandolin player Hamilton de Holanda. At the end of the show all the artists sang and played together Yael’s Prayer of the Mothers. The Israeli Consul in Sao Paulo, Mr. Dori Goren attended the event  with his wife and son.

We gave a short speech to the audience and were invited to speak to the Jewish community in Curitiba, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. In Rio we had interesting meetings with Naamat and Wizo women, who surprisingly know a lot about  WWP and thus were happy to meet us. The Brazilian Jewish community was so interested in the meetings that they are talking about initiating a March in Rio next year.

We also presented WWP movement in Museum Oscar Niemeyer in Curitiba, gave an interviews to the Jewish community TV channel and to a Silvio Tendler, a movie director well known for his documentaries.

Brazil is a large country and we managed to reach quite a few cities in one week. Part of the visit success was due to the close and warm partnership between the two of us!
