{"id":7475,"date":"2018-01-07T15:01:30","date_gmt":"2018-01-07T15:01:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/womenwagepeace.org.il\/en\/?p=7475"},"modified":"2022-08-24T10:51:31","modified_gmt":"2022-08-24T10:51:31","slug":"waging-peace-parliament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.womenwagepeace.org.il\/en\/waging-peace-parliament\/","title":{"rendered":"Waging Peace in the Parliament"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>How do we put pressure on decision-makers while expanding our grassroots at the same time?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In brief: for the past year, WWP volunteers \u2013 mostly residents from the Jerusalem area \u2013 have formed a Knesset Committees Team, a sub-set of our Government Relations Team whose goal is to influence decision makers at all levels.\u00a0 In Israel, these include the Knesset,\u00a0\u2018the government\u2019\u00a0[the name for whichever coalition is in power,\u00a0similar to\u00a0\u2018the administration\u2019 in American politics]\u00a0as well as mayors and regional council heads. We are determined to influence all of them in order to advance both a political agreement as well as the participation of women in every aspect of decision-making related to war, peace, and security.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Knesset Committees Team attends relevant meetings in order to listen to our decision-makers\u00a0<strong>and<\/strong>\u00a0to be heard by them. In addition to becoming a constant presence in the country\u2019s highest legislative arena, we\u2019ve been learning about parliamentary discourse and how the Knesset conducts its law-making. We understand that it is also our right as a civilian body, under the Freedom of Information Law, to seek answers to our questions. We invite any WWP member living in the area to join us; there are still plenty of sessions we would like to cover.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-7476\" src=\"http:\/\/womenwagepeace.org.il\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG-20171211-WA0005-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/> <img class=\"size-medium wp-image-7478 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/womenwagepeace.org.il\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG-20171225-WA0003-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As for strengthening our grassroots, our Women&#8217;s Knesset continues to offer any woman from anywhere in the country the chance to go to the Knesset with other women from her region. Traveling to Jerusalem via reserved bus using a simple online pay-what-you-can model, WWP is now present at the Knesset every Monday in rotating groups based on geographical area. After assembling in the building\u2019s dairy cafeteria for a little camaraderie, we meet privately with an MK [Member of Parliament] and then sit\u00a0<em>en masse<\/em>\u00a0in the gallery during plenum sessions.
