{"id":6705,"date":"2017-06-06T18:07:25","date_gmt":"2017-06-06T18:07:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/womenwagepeace.org.il\/en\/?p=6705"},"modified":"2022-08-24T10:51:39","modified_gmt":"2022-08-24T10:51:39","slug":"paying-attention-monitoring-parliament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.womenwagepeace.org.il\/en\/paying-attention-monitoring-parliament\/","title":{"rendered":"We\u2019re Paying Attention: monitoring the Parliament"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Our recently-funded legislative initiative is called\u00a0<em>Samot Lev \u2013\u00a0<\/em>literally,<em>\u00a0&#8220;<\/em>women are paying attention<em>.\u201d <\/em>This<em>\u00a0<\/em>project offers us a\u00a0direct path to influencing Israel\u2019s decision-makers and complements our connection to the Knesset that began in January via the new Caucus for Women, Peace, and\u00a0 Security.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6704 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/womenwagepeace.org.il\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/Logo-Samot-Lev-final-350x350-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">From now on, we\u2019re paying attention \u2013 making sure that our leaders are examining every political option to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict; making sure that their words are backed up by deeds; making sure that our own voices are heard and taken into account.\u00a0<strong>A political agreement will come about when the government and the Knesset support and advance it.<\/strong>\u00a0In order to influence our decision-makers to choose a political agreement as their preferred strategy, WWP\u2019s Government Relations Team has established a network of women (eventually 500 in all) who are paying attention to every one of the 120 members of the Knesset.\u00a0Samot Lev\u00a0volunteers are forming professional and ongoing relationships with MKs by dividing into groups of 2 &#8211; 3 women who are responsible for first contact and for regular digital communication and personal meetings . It is clear to us that we\u00a0<strong>can<\/strong>\u00a0influence decision-making. We will not wait for someone else to do the work for us.
